Welcome To Good Karma Kid!!!
I used to blog just about poker, but recently decided to write about everything of interest to me. I love to travel, enjoy good food & restaurants, drink some wine, and take pictures of my adventures. I got my nickname about 10 years ago when I used to play a lot of poker in Washington State, and guys used to tell me that “I was Lucky.” I always replied “I’m Not Lucky, I Have Good Karma” and a poker friend starting calling me “The Good Karma Kid”. Hope you enjoy the blog, if you like a particular article make sure to leave a comment ![]()

Played almost 2500 hands of 20-40 on Saturday night till about 8am Sunday Morning. I’m not sure its healthy to play that much poker in one day. To put that number of hands in context, it would be about 71 hours of poker at a casino. Its mind boggling when you think about how many hands you can see in one day if you are playing mulitple tables. I struggled most of the night and was stuck almost 1500 at the lowpoint. Finally made a comeback in the early morning and was winning about 1000 and gladly logged off PartyPoker.
I actually had a hard time sleeping, kept waking up to Poker Dreams, where my brain was replaying hands and bad beats. Definitely not going to play tonight, Day off for sure.
Today’s Poker Lesson: Sometimes you have to fight for your money. Sometimes everything seems to go easy, other days just the opposite. If you play poker, you have to learn to deal with the swings of the game, both emotionally and physically. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in a great 30-60 hold’em game at the Bellagio and been stuck a rack (1000) or two. I wasn’t playing bad, a few bad beats here and there, losing a couple big pots on river, etc. As long as you still have an edge in the game and the game is good, I am a firm believer in fighting for your money. On the other hand, if you’ve become tired, not playing your best, poor table image and the game no longer has positive expectation, pick your ass up and go home.

Now thats how online poker is supposed to be, seemed like everything went right tonight. Played good, ran good, not many bad beats, lots of bad players giving their money away. Only played about 3 hours and won 3k. If only poker was that easy.
Today’s Poker Lesson: I generally don’t advocate a “hit and run” strategy. I subscribe to the strategy that if the game is good for you, you should continue to play as long as you still have an edge. Having said that, a nice hit and run is great for the psyche. I like to hit and run occasionally usually under the following cirumstances: If I’ve played a lot in the previous couple of days and just sat down and won a nice amount of money in a short time, If I’ve just had a couple losing sessions in a row ( the mental value of booking a win is important). If I’m playing Omaha while waiting to get into a hold’em game at the Bellagio and happen to win a couple hoggers ( you want to see a group of players get hot and steam, just visit the regulars in the omaha game at the Bellagio, you would be hard pressed to find a bigger group of snivelers, whiners, and complainers anywhere on the face of the planet than the group of regular Omaha players at the Bellagio.)

My wife and I are expecting a baby boy in October, and my wife kept dropping hints about going on a “Baby Moon”. It would be our last chance to spend time alone
and that whole song and dance. I was getting a little burned out on poker, and could always use a vacaction. I’ve been playing poker professionaly for almost 6 years now and the truth is I can’t see myself doing much else. It can be pretty rewarding, both financially, and personally. You have a huge amount of independence and freedom that jobs and owning your own business don’t afford you. BUT, as great as poker is, its tough to stay motivated some time.
Anyhow, my mom has a timeshare which is good at several different location around the U.S. and Mexico.
The condo at Lake Tahoe has been booked solid for the summer for months, but we got lucky and their was a cancellation so we were able to reserve a room for three days starting on the 8th of August. It should be a lot of fun, I’ve heard lots of great things about Lake Tahoe, but never been there.
Be back on Thursday,
Today’s Poker Lesson: Keep your wife/husband or significant other happy. The ups and downs of Poker are tough on them also. If your relationship is good and your significant other is happy, it will make your job as a poker player much easier.
